Are Pests Becoming A Bigger Problem?
Filed under News and TipsAug 13It seems as though the issue of pest control is quickly coming to the forefront in many media outlets and other new sites. It seems that every other day, you hear or a restaurant being shut down because of rats, or a local house being severely damaged by termites or another pest. But, are pests becoming a bigger problem, or are people just becoming more aware of it.
In reality, it is a little bit of both. If you talk to the average homeowner, they probable know nothing about spider pest control or any other kind of basic pest control. They don’t know how to get rid of ants or fruit flies. They are probably terrified of mice. This current generation has formed a disconnect with basic home maintenance, and would rather pay someone to come and do work for them instead of doing it themselves. This means that when there is actually a pest problem, they are unable to identify it, and they don’t know how to take care of it.
But, the media is also making the issues worse. In the past, there wasn’t food handling rules that were as strict as they are now, and there wasn’t intense media coverage that made it seem like such a big deal. Since when is a bunch of rats closing down a local restaurant news that everyone needs to know? It seems that media sensationalism has taken hold of everything and has caused more problems than it has solved.
There is pretty much the same amount of pests around today as there was in the past, but people don’t know how to handle it and the media makes a big deal out of it. If people would just spend the time to learn how to deal with these pests effectively and not be so afraid of them, there would be a lot fewer issues, but that’s not the way the public works. Do yourself a favor – learn some basic pest control techniques and don’t be fooled by everyone who says pests are taking over the world.
